The roles and responsibilities of being a competent, and effective, yoga instructor are up to the individual. As anyone who knows anything about fitness and exercise knows that you have to start somewhere and move slowly, and the same principle applies to Yoga.
Different styles emphasize varying aspects of yoga. I have been doing Yoga for quite some time now, and since the first day I swore off free-weights and exercise machines, my use of Yoga and other body weight exercises has been the main method for keeping fit. Since different yoga schools often have a slightly different focus, flexibility is allowed, with several hours given to a more intense study of the school's specialty.
And this helps improve the functioning of our organs and our general health. Overall, yoga techniques of any kind benefit health dramatically. Perhaps you will find that blood pressure problems improve, or back pain may improve or even just that you get a better nights sleep.
Yoga is not what you keep to yourself, bring in one or two friends and have a good time. Signing up for a series of classes is also the best way to keep you on track, since you can pay in advance.
